Meet our Campus Pastor, Pastor Joseph Murdy

It is my joy to introduce myself. My name is Pastor Joseph Murdy, friends call me “PJ.” I am the newly appointed Associate Pastor of First English Lutheran Church on Grant Street, across from the Steel Plaza Building. First Lutheran Church has had a long history of supporting students in our community in a variety of ways at Point Park, as well as campuses across the Pittsburgh region. Having experienced campus ministry myself as a student, I am thrilled to be a spiritual resource for Point Park University.

I am a native of Pittsburgh, having grown up on the north side of the city. I am a graduate of Thiel College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now United Lutheran Seminary). I am also a Chaplain in the United States Army Reserves, serving the 328th Combat and Operational Stress Control (COSC) unit, out of Coraopolis. In my role as Chaplain, I work in a pluralistic environment which cares for people of all faiths, traditions, and expressions. As a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, I am able to work with people of all orientations.

My wife and I both work downtown and enjoy the metropolitan experience. We both grew up in Pittsburgh and love our city very much! We have four wonderful kids and a cat. 

I am looking forward to being a part of the Point Park family and offering time and space for those who are seeking spiritual care. It is my hope to establish a weekly presence, monthly newsletters, and services when needed, and provide students with opportunities to express their faith.
